The Knesset approved in preliminary reading a bill of a Deputy Tali Plaskow («Kulan») that change the calculation of maternity payments to individual entrepreneurs.
At the moment maternity benefits to individual entrepreneurs will be charged in accordance with the income for the year prior to the birth, and then the national insurance Institute calculates in accordance with the income year in which the birth occurred.
Because in most cases, the women’s income in the year of birth significantly reduced, many individual entrepreneurs are forced to return part of the money.
Plaskow the bill proposes to calculate maternity benefits on the basis of income for the quarter, prior to the birth (or care in the decree on conservation of pregnancy), or income for the quarter preceding the pregnancy, the larger of two values.
Earlier the bill was supported by the legislative Board of the government.
