On the evening of 27 October in Kefar Etzion, a ceremony dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the resumption of Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, the Jordan valley and the Golan. The event was attended by thousands of Israeli citizens. Among the speakers was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein, his message to the participants recorded the head of the party «Bytes Yehudi» Naftali Bennett.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Jewish settlement activity is the restoration of historical continuity which, according to him, will never be interrupted. He also promised that Israel will no longer «uprooted» existing towns. Moreover, as stressed by Netanyahu, this promise applies not only Jewish but Arab settlements. «We have evacuated the settlement, but in response, instead of peace we got terror,» he recalled.
Netanyahu said: «In this place are concentrated the history of our people, which intertwined the destruction of faith, exile and redemption, the desire for survival and revival. During the fighting we had back in gush Katif, in ancient Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Jordan valley and Golan».
Naftali Bennett, who recorded a message in advance, demanded that the government distribution of Israeli sovereignty on all of Judea and Samaria.
Note that the opening ceremony was held shortly after the high court dismissed the appeal of public organization «Regavim», which demanded to oblige the judiciary to be in Kfar Etzion, as originally planned.
It was expected that the ceremony will come a Supreme court justice Neal Hendel, however, after the appeal of the Deputy of the Knesset Isaui of Freyja (MERETZ), the head of the Supreme court Miriam Naor announced that the decision is reversed and judges participate in the ceremony will not be accepted.
This decision Miriam Naor has drawn sharp criticism from the Minister of culture Miri Regev and Minister of tourism AREVA Levin. «If the Supreme court judges cannot put aside their personal views and to take part in state ceremonies, it seems there is no other choice but to stop to invite them to such events,» said Yariv Levin.
Simultaneously with the ceremony in gush Etzion hosts held a protest rally of the movement «peace Now» demonstration and residents of the Outpost Nativ-Avot. Left-wing radicals protested against the ceremony, and right — against the decision to destroy the Outpost.
