Boston freelance journalist David Leavitt, writing articles for the website news service CBS, sparked a wave of indignation in social networks, published a cynical joke regarding the attack in Manchester, which killed 22 people, while 59 others were injured varying degrees of severity.
On Monday, around 19:00, when the first reports came in about the tragic events in the UK, Leavitt put on his page on the social network Twitter with the following text:
«Many of the victims in the «Manchester arena». When I last listened to Ariana Grande, too, almost died. Honestly, I was sure that Ariana Grande is what you ordered at Starbucks.
Immediately thereafter, Twitter was flooded with indignant feedback from users that called for the immediate firing «vile thugs» and not to take it to another job.
A few hours later the journalist, whose blog is read by over 60,000 people, apologized to them, and then deleted this unfortunate tweet, may 23, according to British tabloid the Daily Mail.
«Excuse me, I didn’t realize the scale of the tragedy. I always play stupid jokes about current events. My condolences go out to the families of the victims», — quotes the edition of his words.
Last year, CBS officially distanced itself from the statements, the field, which was in the center of the scandal, wrote in social networks: «tramp died in a dream».
«David Leavitt is not our employee. His disgusting comments in no way reflect the views of our mass media», – said the representative of the Boston branch of the company.
