The Arad police detained 60-the summer man on suspicion in defilement of one of the city synagogues. According to investigators, the man was hung at the entrance to the synagogue pig hoof, and scattered pieces of pork around the building. This was reported by the press service of the police.
The incident occurred at the end of November 2015. The newspaper «Kol a-Zman» wrote that this incident was preceded by a long conflict between secular residents of the city and religious community. The conflict escalated after the mayor was elected a member of the secular party «Yesh Atid» Nisan Ben Homo. The municipality and residents of the quarter, which was next to the synagogue, sought its closure, but the court sided with the religious community, ruling that synagogue will continue to work.
Members of the religious community have accused the secular head of the city in the incitement against the religious. They believe that because of «religious wars» the city is losing potential new residents, and real estate in Arad falls in price.
Thus in a press-service of the city hall do not see the connection between «religious wars» and what is happening in the municipality. Press service recalls that the mayor of Arad Nisan Ben-Homo asked the head of the city police to conduct an investigation into the desecration of a synagogue.
