Several earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 occurred last night in the Asia-Pacific region.
In Indonesia, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred a depth of 588 km North-East of the city of Kemadrin on the island of Bali. It is not excluded that the cause of the earthquake was volcanic activity in the North Bali Wake up Bali’s mount Agung.
The volcano is a popular tourist attraction, but recently the authorities were forced to declare it a closed area to evacuate the inhabitants of nearby settlements.
In Japan it was the earthquake of a magnitude of 6.1, the epicentre of which was located 300 kilometers from the Fukushima nuclear plant which was destroyed by the earthquake-caused tsunami a few years ago.
Three hours later an earthquake of magnitude of 6.4 occurred at a depth of 200 kilometers around the island, Erromango, part of the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.
