A Turkish court of first instance in Kasari decided to penalize Israel for the amount of 251.000 Turkish liras (approximately 89 thousand dollars) for a wound of one of the members of the so-called attempt to break the siege of Gaza.
Today’s Zaman reports that the court decided to pay this amount to the Aidan Ahmet Bekar, who was injured in the clash between the activists of the Islamist organization IHH with Israeli soldiers who detained the ferry Mavi Marmara in the sea.
Bekar’s lawyer said the decision set a precedent for other Turkish courts dealing with such cases.
It should be noted that this decision was made amid reports about the impending normalization of Israeli-Turkish relations affected by interception of the «freedom flotilla» on 31 may 2010.
As previously reported, the agreement on normalization provides for the following: the return of the two States ambassadors, cancel any claims against officers and soldiers of the IDF, the Israeli compensation Fund for those affected in the clash on Board the Mavi Marmara in the amount of 20 million dollars, the willingness of Turkey to counter any terrorist activity on its territory, the ban on entry to Turkey Salah Aruri, a known Hamas activist who according to some reports, was the initiator of the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers in gush Etwine in the summer of 2014, Turkey’s agreement to lay the pipeline through its territory and the immediate start of talks to sell Israeli gas to Turkey.
