Wednesday, February 24, in the village of Silat al-Harithiya (North-West of Jenin, near the border security fence) was killed 45-year-old Brigadier General of the Palestinian security services Ayman Jaradat.
Unknown armed men shot the Jaradat on his doorstep. With severe injuries he was taken to hospital and died shortly thereafter, according to the Agency Maan.
Another Palestinian Agency Safa reported that police have begun to arrest suspects. Silat al-Harithiya and surrounding villages blocked by the security services.
The Palestinian media say that Ayman Jaradat was one of the leaders of the paramilitary group «Black Panthers» (Fatah) during the first intifada in the 80-ies. For terrorist activities, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, but was released from an Israeli prison, where he spent more than 20 years, in the fall of 2011 as part of the «Shalit deal». Soon after his release, he received an officer position in the security services of the PA, and then was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
The leadership of the Fatah movement in Jenin issued a statement condemning the murder of Jaradat and declared that «killing the killers will be legitimate».
In the same statement said that the killing of Ayman Jaradat could be revenge for them killing one of the locals who was suspected of «collaboration with the Israeli occupation».
