Published in the London newspaper «Al-Sharq al-Awsat» reported on Saturday, February 3, citing its own sources, that Russia is taking measures to prevent an Israeli attack on Iranian military facilities in Syria and Lebanon.
«Al-Sharq al-Awsat,» argues that the delegation of the Russian security officials and diplomats, headed by Secretary of the Russian security Council, Nikolay Patrushev, visited the Palestinian authority on a working visit, was instructed «carefully to figure out exactly what fear feels Israel against Hizbullah, Iran and Syria.» The meeting Patrushev and Abbas took place on 1 February in the «Mukata», the residence of the head of the Palestinian authority in Ramallah.
Recall that the Russian delegation headed by Nikolay Patrushev, visited in Israel. 31 January the national security adviser and head of the national security Council of Israel, Meir Ben-Shabat met with Secretary of security Council of Russia, and held consultations with the participation of high-ranking delegates from both countries.
During the consultations the parties discussed the issues and possible scenarios of situation development in the light of regional processes and trends, as well as the Iranian presence in Syria and Iran’s attempts to turn Lebanon into a springboard missile threatening Israel. Discussed coordination mechanisms in the field of security and cooperation in the fight against international terrorism that threatens the entire world, as well as further expansion of cooperation between Russia and Israel on a wide range of issues.
Consultations in Jerusalem was necessary for a detailed discussion of the issues raised at the talks between Putin and Netanyahu. It was, in particular, on the construction of Iran’s military bases in Syria and plants for the production of missiles in Lebanon. Apparently, while these Iranian projects are in the initial stages of implementation, but Israel is extremely concerned about the military expansion of Iran in the region and warns that the IDF could operate to destroy Iranian military installations near its borders.
After a visit to Moscow, Netanyahu wrote in Facebook: «I made it clear (Putin) that Israel will not accept any of these attempts and will act as needed». He also told reporters after a visit to Moscow that the Russian leadership understands Israel’s position on this issue and how badly the Israelis treat these threats.
