Tuesday, 16 February, not far from the Damascus gate in Jerusalem, was detained the head of the Israeli Bureau of the Washington Post’s William Booth. About this informed the radio station «Sieves Beth».
According to the radio station, William Booth, was detained after one of the passers-by informed the border guards that the journalist is trying to stage a clash between Arab youths and police. According to a passerby, journalist «incited Arabs to riot.»
Journalist for The Washington Post Ruth Marx Eglash wrote in his Twitter that her colleagues were detained on suspicion of incitement at the time, when they interviewed passers-by.
Together with William booth was detained another member of the station staff.
According to «Sieves Beth», police spoke with reporters, and making sure that a passer-by was wrong, he freed them. The incident lasted about 30 minutes.
The Israeli foreign Ministry released a statement which commended the professionalism of William booth and his colleagues, and expressed «regret over the incident». Government press office called the incident «unfortunate misunderstanding».
