Wednesday, March 14, the Bundestag re-elected Angela Merkel, the head of the German government. This will be the fourth cadence Merkel as Chancellor.
We will remind that in February, the Christian Democratic Union under the leadership of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Social democratic party of Germany came to an agreement that allowed us to create the country’s new government.
In November last year in Germany had failed coalition negotiations, when the Free democratic party of Germany stated that they should not enter into a coalition with the CDU/CSU because of the «loss of mutual confidence.» Merkel said then that, despite the failure of the negotiations, will not resign. The Chancellor also stressed that he does not want to create a minority coalition and would prefer to bring the country to new elections.
Elections to the Bundestag took place in Germany in September 2017. Block Merkel received the highest number of votes, in second place were the social Democrats. Third place was taken by a right-wing party «Alternative for Germany».
