Leon Vizilter, the outstanding Jewish scholar and editor of the liberal magazine the New Republic, which manages almost three decades, was dismissed from his post in connection with another series of revelations: several women accused him of sexual harassment and indecent assault.
About it writes on Wednesday, October 25, the leading US newspaper The New York Times.
The victims claim that Vizeltir used to kiss them on the lips, without the consent and allowed themselves to sexist remarks about their clothing and appearance.
Edition Рolitico publishes his statement, which reads: «I apologize to my colleagues who have offended and insulted in the past. The women with whom I worked – good, smart people, and I’m ashamed and humiliated them with disrespect. I want to assure them that I learned a lesson».
Recall that Vizilter, a member of the editorial Board of the Jewish book review (The Jewish Review of Books), regularly lectured about Israel and the different currents of Judaism. In 1998, he was awarded the Jewish Book Council Award for non-fiction book «Kaddish,» which explored Jewish memorial prayer.
