The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, gathered at last in this year meeting, released Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin from the post of head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for cooperation of Church and society (OVCO).

«The Holy Synod has released Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin from the post of Chairman of the Department for cooperation of Church and society, expressing his gratitude for the many years of participation in the dialogue with the authorities on the subject of developing legislation on religious organizations, as well as participation in the work of the Interreligious Council of Russia», – stated in the message.
Chaplin himself in conversation with the correspondent of the portal from any comments have refrained, having suggested to wait for the final wording.
At this same meeting was the establishment of a new ecclesiastical structure – the Department on interrelations of the Church with society and the media, which aims to «streamline operations and improve efficiency, as well as the exclusion of concurrent processes in the activity of the Synodal institutions».
The newly formed Department formed by the merger of the Synodal Information Department and the Synodal Department for Church and society, appointed him head Vladimir Legoyda, who until this time was the head of the Synodal Information Department.
