According to the preliminary results of the referendum held in Armenia on 6 December, the majority of Russians supported the amendments to the Constitution that will give more power to the Prime Minister and the Parliament of Armenia at the expense of presidential powers, according to AP.
Armenian CEC said that according to preliminary results of voting, 63% of the population supported the amendment, which will make the President a figure, carrying mainly representative functions.
Even before the announcement of the provisional results of the referendum by the opposition, convinced that the reform initiated by the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to stay in power after 2018, when the term of his presidency, staged in Yerevan protest. The protesters demanded to cancel the results of the referendum.
The President denies that he intends to take the post of Prime Minister. The presidential administration claims that the purpose of the reform is the introduction of a more balanced distribution of power in the country, including strengthening of the judiciary.
