Wednesday, 23 February, Brigadier General in reserve of Avriel Bar-Josef was appointed head of the Headquarters for national security in the office of the head of government. The Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved this appointment.
Avriel Bar-Yosef was succeeded by Yossi Cohen, who headed the foreign intelligence «Mossad».
Avriel Bar-Yosef 61 years, he is married, has four children and three grandchildren.
2009 Bar-Yosef served as Deputy chief of staff of the national security. He left that post about six months ago.
In the period from 2004 to 2009 he was the head of the Knesset foreign Affairs and security policy and the Commission on the analysis of the defense budget.
Bar-Yosef served in the IDF for 25 years and finished his service in the rank of Brigadier General. His last army position was the position of the head of Department of logistics of the Navy.
Avriel Bar-Yosef graduated from the faculty of engineering at the University of Glasgow and an engineering graduate of the University of Michigan.
