Tuesday, February 9, all-Israeli Association of trade unions («Histadrut») announced the cancellation of the strike in the municipalities, which was to begin on Wednesday morning.
In accordance with the reached agreement, one hundred thousand workers in local and regional councils, they are entitled to receive a lump-sum compensation, and all other employees of the public sector. One-time bonus to the employees of municipalities shall be paid from the budgets of the ministries and the local government Center will perform all further conditions of the agreement signed with the Ministry of Finance.
Recall that the reason for the strike was the refusal of local authorities to implement the arrangement on payment of 100 thousands of municipal workers bonus in the amount of 1,000 shekels.
The center of local government, in turn, demanded that the state compensate 100 million shekels, which the municipalities have to spend on bonus payments.
«We are very pleased that the strike is averted, and the fact that agreement has been reached on compensation of local authorities in connection with the new agreements,» — said the head of the local government Center Haim Bivas.
The Chairman of the «Histadrut» AVI Nissenkorn said: «I welcome the understanding reached between the Ministry of Finance and local authorities. The Histadrut once again proved that it is possible to achieve without agreement and the strike was launched, and it will continue to act responsibly in the name of protecting the rights of workers in the country. I thank the Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon and the President of the local government Center, Haim Bivas for their efforts in the search to overcome differences.»
