In the Egyptian Luxor hosted a ceremony in honor of the completion of the restoration of the giant statue of Ramses II one of Egypt’s most powerful pharaohs of Ancient Egypt.
The height of the statue is 11 meters and a weight of about 75 tons. She returned to the place where they were installed about three years ago – near the Luxor temple. It was here in 1958-1960 was discovered its wreckage – 57 parts of the statue.
The authorities seek to revive the tourism industry, which until the Arab spring was Egypt’s main source of foreign currency. Ancient history and affordable prices has attracted pyramids masses of tourists.
However, numerous attacks, including in tourist areas, are driving this effort. On April 18 the militants of the «Islamic state» attacked a checkpoint near the monastery of St. Catherine on mount Sinai. One policeman was killed and four were wounded.
According to a popular tradition, that Ramses II is the Pharaoh, in whose reign occurred the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt. Note that the ceremony took place shortly after the end of Passover – a holiday established in memory of the liberation from slavery in Egypt.
