Princeton University reported that an American citizen, sentenced in Iran to ten years of imprisonment for espionage – doctoral student of the institution, Siue WAN. It has also the citizenship of the PRC.
The historian went to the Islamic Republic of Iran, to collect the materials required for the doctorate. He was arrested in the summer of 2016. Since then, the University is seeking his release and support the family.
«We are extremely concerned that the charges related to his scientific activity, the fact that it became the basis for the verdict. His family and the University hope that it will be released,» — said the press-Secretary of the institution Daniel Day.
The U.S. Department of state announced that he was aware of reports about the conviction of Siye Vanya. He called for the release of all foreigners held in Iran on trumped-up charges of espionage.
16 July it became known that the Iranian court sentenced to ten years in prison, a US citizen, who was convicted of espionage. It is reported that the convicted person has nationality of another country.
«This man was acting at the behest of America, collecting information for her, will spend behind bars for ten years. However, he has a right to appeal», — said the press-Secretary of the judicial system gholamhoseyn Mohseni Ajay.
