In honor of International volunteer day, the Central Bureau of statistics published data about the volunteering activities in Israel in 2015.
According to official data, last year the volunteer activity was engaged 1.1 million residents – 21% of the population aged 20 to 64 years and 16% of the population aged 65 years and older.
45% of volunteers participated in one or more volunteer organizations, 42% engaged in volunteer work on an individual basis,13% were volunteers and within the organisation and in private.
Among those who participated in the work of the organizations, 35% were engaged in volunteer work to assist the needy (the poor, the elderly, the disabled, troubled Teens, etc.), 22% participated in projects in the field of education.
According to a CBS study, the volunteers were more confident in their lives and more optimistic than those who are not doing volunteer work, and suffer less from loneliness.
