A parliamentary Commission approved for voting in the second and third readings a bill that allows the member to refrain from raising their own salaries as part of its annual indexation. The Knesset will publish the names of MPs who took advantage of the new law. The amendment was proposed by MP from the «Likud» David Bitanem.
In this case the law says the MP, who refused the indexation of their wages will no longer be able to «change your mind» and ask it to index wages to the end of the year.
Media reported that during the discussion of the bill member Yoel Hasson suggested to classify the names of parliamentarians who have waived bonuses in order not to embarrass those who could not abandon indexing. However, the proposal of a Joel Hasana was rejected by a majority of votes.
The Deputy from the party «Jadot a-Torah» Menachem Eliezer Moses during the discussion it was reminded that after the payment of taxes from «Deputy wages» is not such a big amount. He reminded that parliamentarians are those who have ten children and grandchildren, and, of course, he said, they need to earn more than the «who has two children and a dog.»
Note that in November 2015 the statutory Commission of the Knesset rejected the opposition’s initiative for the abolition of the indexation of salaries of parliamentarians. Thus, in February 2016, MPs will receive a pay raise in size from 731 to 1.463 shekels. Today the salary of MPs is 40.029 NIS (gross). The initiative on cancellation of indexation of salaries, which was rejected by a majority vote of the Commission members, nominated deputies Shelly Yakhimovich («Zionist camp») and Yael German («Yesh Atid»).
