Wednesday, September 27, the district court of Simferopol acknowledged the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ilmi Umerov guilty of incitement to separatism and sentenced to two years in a penal colony, reports «Interfax».

The prosecution asked to appoint Umarov punishment in the form of conditional imprisonment.

Umerov’s lawyers intend to appeal the verdict and called the accusations against his client motivated and fabricated.

The criminal case against Umerov was initiated in may 2016. According to the prosecution, umer, being in Kiev, has publicly called for the return of Crimea to Ukraine.

When the dead returned from Kiev to the Crimea, he had to forcibly undergo a forensic psychiatric examination, which found the activist sane.

Recall that the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was recognized by the Supreme court of Russia as an extremist organization in September 2016.
