Vice-Premier of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Rogozin canceled his visit to Iran, which was supposed to arrive on February 13 for a meeting with the Vice President for science and technology Soranou Sattari and defense Minister Hossein Dekhana, writes «Kommersant».
The publication said that Rogozin planned to discuss in Tehran the prospects of bilateral cooperation, primarily in the aviation sector, raising the question of the procurement by Iran of Russian passenger planes.
According to «Kommersant», the reason for the cancellation of the visit was disclosed by the Iranian side information about the upcoming visit of the official, though Moscow hopes to keep the trip secret.
A source in the government of the Russian Federation added that in addition to the meeting of the Committee on science and technology, co-chair of which is to Rogozin, the parties plan to discuss «sensitive topics». In particular, the newspaper writes, «had a difficult conversation about the reasons for the orientation of Iranian partners for the purchase of planes from Western countries.»
Earlier, the Iranian news Agency Mehr, citing a statement by Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai said that the Ministry of energy of Russia Alexander Novak, first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and Vice Premier Dmitry Rogozin will visit Iran on an official visit within the next month. It was said that Rogozin will head the Russian delegation in Tehran for talks on expansion of cooperation of Russia and Iran in the field of technology development and defense.
Formally Rogozin’s visit had been cancelled «for technical reasons». Programme of visits Shuvalov and Novak remained unchanged, RIA Novosti reported.
