Not known to police, vandals desecrated the Jewish cemetery, the Knesset Ateret Yisrael, located in the city of Hartford, state of Connecticut, for more than 70 years, turning there at least 60 tombstones.
About the crime, traces of which were discovered last Friday, wrote on Sunday, July 23, local newspaper the Hartford Courant.
A local resident, who came to visit the grave of a relative, reported the desecration of a cemetery to the police. The article notes that two tombstones were broken, the total loss caused by this crime is estimated at $ 10,000.
Hartford police already stated that he does not consider this act of vandalism is a crime of hate, because criminals are not left on cemetery anti-Semitic graffiti. Howard Sovronsky, head of the Jewish Federation of Hartford, called it a «random and cowardly manifestation of vandalism.»
