Legendary Lithuanian violinist, conductor and educator Saulius Sondeckis, founder and Director of the Lithuanian chamber orchestra, has died at the age of 87 years, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the President of the musicians Union of Lithuania Audrone Zigaityte-krashene.
Sondeckis was born in the city of Siauliai. She started her career as a violinist, but later began teaching at the Conservatory, and in 1964 became the first Lithuanian conductor, who went on the tour the head of his own team.
In 1989, Sondeckis founded and led the orchestra «St. Petersburg Camerata», which was played by the graduates and students of the Leningrad Conservatoire. In 1994 it received the status of the state Hermitage orchestra.
Since 2004 is the principal guest conductor of the orchestra «Moscow Virtuosi».
In honor of the Sondeckis Conservatoire named the city of Siauliai.
