February 13, in 80-m to year of life died a major-General in the resignation of Avigdor (Yanush) Ben-Gal commanded the 7th armored brigade during the Yom Kippur War, former chief of the Northern district. The death has come from cardiac arrest.
Avigdor Ben-Gal was born on 14 may 1936 in Lodz. After the outbreak of the Second world war his family fled to the USSR, but there Ben-Gal and his sister lost their parents. The children were in Iran together with other Polish refugees, who had joined the army of General Anders, and there were in 1943, moved to Eretz Yisrael (the repatriation of the «Children of Tehran»).
Ben-Gal entered the army service in 1956, shortly before operation «Kadesh». He served in armor. Graduated from officer training. During the six-day war, the chief of operations of the 200th tank brigade.
The Yom Kippur war he met on a post of the commander of the 7th brigade. He commanded his unit in a fierce battle with the greatly superior forces of the Syrian tanks on the Golan heights. He was able to perform the task of deterrence of Syrian troops until the mobilized reservists, after which the Israeli army went on the offensive.
From 1977 to 1981 he held the position of chief of the Northern district. During the Lebanon war of 1982 he commanded the corps.
Avigdor Ben-Gal was married, the marriage produced seven children.
