Sunday morning, 9 July, Russian media reported the death of artist Ilya Glazunov, the founder and rector of the Russian Academy of painting and sculpture, who died in Moscow on 88-m to year of life from heart failure.

People’s artist Ilya Glazunov, laureate of the State prize of the Russian Federation and full cavalier of the order «For merits before Fatherland», was born in 1930 in Leningrad.
Glazunov is the author of the paintings of the «Eternal Russia», representing the history and culture of Russia for 1,000 years, and scenic painting «the Contribution of the peoples of the Soviet Union to world culture and civilization» at the UNESCO building in Paris.
This artist has created a series of portraits of political and public figures, writers and artists, among them Indira Gandhi, Federico Fellini, Gina Lollobrigida, cosmonaut Vitaly Sevastyanov, Leonid Brezhnev and others.
Glazunov was also a theater artist, designed the Opera «the legend of the invisible city of Kitezh and the maiden Fevroniya» by N. Rimsky-Korsakov in Bolshoi theatre «Prince Igor» by Borodin and «the Queen of spades» by P. Tchaikovsky at the Berlin Opera, for the ballet «Masquerade» by A. Khachaturian at the Odessa Opera house.
The artist participated in the restoration and reconstruction of buildings of the Moscow Kremlin, including the Grand Kremlin Palace.
