American actor George Gaines, best known for the role of Commissioner of Lassard in a series of Comedy films «Police Academy» and for his role in the film «Tootsie», died February 15 at the home of his daughter in North bend (Washington). The actor was 98 years old.
Gaines has played many roles in movies and TV series, however, despite the fame, the actor went largely to supporting roles.
George Gaines (real name — Jongejans) was born in Helsingfors, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland, in the family of the Russian artist and socialite AI GE Grigorievna, who later became known as the lady of Abdi, and Dutch businessman Gerrit of Jongejans. Gaines was the grandson of the famous actor of the Imperial theatre Grigory Grigorievich GHE.
The first role that brought fame Gaines, was the role of John van horn in the Comedy «Tootsie», where the partner Gaines was Dustin Hoffman. A few years later, Gaines began acting in films from the series «Police Academy», as well as in the popular Comedy series «Punky Brewster».
