Chapter refining company BAZAN «Batey sikok» called for hearings in Parliament in connection with the sharp increase in concentrations of carcinogenic benzene in Haifa and its suburbs.
This was stated on Wednesday, may 17, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of the Prime Minister Yaron Mazuz at the plenary session of the Knesset. He stressed that the management of refinery enterprises do not have the right to endanger the lives of Israeli citizens.
Recall that in February this year, the national Council for planning and building has frozen the previously issued permit for the expansion of the Haifa refinery, taking sides with the mayor of Haifa, Yona, Ahava, the speaker of the demanding transport of heavy chemical production from the center of the Haifa Metropolitan area.
The allocated area was supposed to build the power station and pipelines that were supposed to replace old infrastructure, partly created during the British mandate.
