On the eve of the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan Dubai police appealed to the citizens with an appeal not to give money to the poor and street beggars. The document says that even though charity is one of the precepts of Islam, it is generally accepted channels.
Major General Omar Ali, Muhairi, head of Dubai police, noted that the poor often give themselves the crooks included in a criminal gang. Feeding them alms, law-abiding citizens encourage such antisocial behaviour.
«Police has made considerable efforts to put an end to this phenomenon. WE conduct a campaign against professional beggars, but for legal citizens should be aware of illegality of such actions,» — said in a statement.
Also decided to toughen the criteria for granting visas. Ramadan, when devout generous alms to the United Arab Emirates attracts professional beggars from other States. One of them detained in 2016, was seized 270,000 dirhams – 73.500 dollars.
