Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi for the first time confirmed that the crash of the Russian aircraft on the Sinai Peninsula was the result of a terrorist attack. According to al-Sisi, the terrorists had intended to hit tourism in Egypt, as well as lead to complications in the relations between Cairo and Moscow.
In his speech on state television, the Egyptian President urged the nation to unite in the war on terror.
«If there’s opposition to terrorism? No, not yet. But let’s get something together. Whoever shot down the plane, whether he had intended to strike only on tourism? No, he wanted to hit on relations with Russia, Italy and other countries.»
Despite the conclusion of Russian experts that the cause of the accident was a terrorist attack, Egypt until recently denied this fact. In mid-December, the head of the investigating Commission of Egypt, Ayman al-Mukaddam stated that the result still does not exclude that the cause of the crash of the Russian plane was a technical fault.
Aircraft A321, airline Metrojet («Kogalymavia») crashed in the Sinai Peninsula on October 31. Onboard there were 217 passengers and seven crew members. They all died.
