A Cairo court sentenced to imprisonment of writer Ahmad Naji. His book acknowledged «offending public morals», according to «al Arabiya».
The reason for the trial was an excerpt from the book Naji, published in the journal «Tariq al-Tahir» in 2014. The authorities asked the citizen who filed the complaint, according to which, in the book described sexual acts and consumption of hashish.
The first court that heard the case, found the writer innocent. Prosecutors appealed the decision, and the next court level Naji was sentenced to two years in prison. Editor of the literary magazine that published otryvki, was sentenced to a fine of 10,000 Egyptian pounds (about 1,300 dollars).
The lawyers are going to take the opportunity to contact the Prosecutor’s office demanding to review the case or to cancel the verdict.
