On Saturday evening, March 10, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu begins a series of meetings with the heads of the coalition factions. These meetings aimed at resolving the political crisis, and it will decide, whether held in Israel early elections or the current coalition will continue its work.
The evening of 10 March, Prime Minister meets with heads of the ultra-Orthodox factions. This meeting was supposed to start at 21:00, but at the end of the Sabbath was declared to postpone it to 22:00. Before meeting with the head of government MPs Moshe Gafni, URI Maklev and Yaakov Asher submitted a new draft law on appeal to the leaders of the Council of Torah scholars of the party «Degel a-Torah». They authorized their deputies to conduct negotiations with Netanyahu approving the law on conscription in the preliminary reading to completion the winter session of the Knesset.
According to sources close to Netanyahu, the Prime Minister intends to demand that ultra-Orthodox promise not to initiate more controversial laws in the sphere of religion and the state until the end of the 20 Knesset convocation.
March 11, Netanyahu will meet with the heads of the other coalition factions. Crucial will be a meeting with defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The head of Yisrael Beiteinu continues to oppose the new law on conscription and immediately after the end of the Sabbath issued a very sharp statement: «In life there are times when you need to choose what you believe, not what is beneficial. Now the time has come».
In the coalition fear that Lieberman and Netanyahu are coordinated, and that they were seeking early elections in June 2018. The Prime Minister rejected these theories and publications, according to which Netanyahu would require coalition partners the obligation not to leave the coalition until November 2019. Those close to Netanyahu claim that the head of government is interested in the continuation of the current coalition, but only after meetings with coalition partners will become clear if it is possible. Radio «Kahn Beth» vysokopostavlennye quoted sources in the coalition, claiming that Netanyahu promised Lieberman the post of defense Minister in exchange for support of NDI in the dissolution of the Knesset and early elections in June. Sources in Yisrael Beiteinu has called the allegations «speculation, devoid of any basis».
«Kahn Beth» also reported that the heads of parties within the coalition are going to block the intention of Netanyahu to dissolve the Knesset and declare the elections in November. Recall that in case of the Declaration of the Prime Minister resignation of the government in resignation, elections are not declared automatically: provided 60 days for the formation of a new Cabinet, and the authority can be granted not only to the current Prime Minister, but another member of the Knesset. To call early elections, held in three readings the law on the dissolution of the Knesset. This requires an agreed date for new elections. At the moment this date is not, as the coalition factions against holding elections in June.
Estimated sources in the political system, the fate of the current coalition will be decided no later than March 12. On this day, the head of the government should be in the Knesset and it is expected that before the meeting, the crisis will be resolved. On 11 March, the Ministerial Committee on legislation will vote for a new draft law on appeal, and a session of the Knesset will end on March 15. Recall that the Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon requires to approve the budget before the end of the session. Otherwise, he threatens to resign.
