Elections in Egypt: al-Sisi wins, the turnout is less than 50%

In Egypt ended March 26-28 presidential election. They involved two candidates: the current head of state Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi and the representative of the Pro-government party «al-the Reptile» Musa Mustafa Musa, whom the opposition called a presidential puppet.

In conditions when the winner is known in advance, the main goal of the authorities was to ensure the highest possible turnout. This would allow to declare the election a kind of referendum of popular support for the incumbent President. However, to solve this problem failed.

According to the newspaper «al-Masry al-yum,» in the elections participated about 25 million of 57.788.138 voters. At the same time, according to preliminary results, about 97% of those who implemented the right to vote, gave it to al-Sisi.

Final election results will be published on 2 April. However, the head of the Central electoral Committee Mahmoud Sharif commended the civic maturity of the Egyptians, and also thanked the journalists for the objective a story about the election.
