Erdogan: Turkey would not withdraw troops from Iraq

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday, December 11, that is not going to order the withdrawal of forces from Mosul, where they had arrived to assist in the training of the Kurdish militias.

Erdoğan again stressed that the military base «Basica» in Iraq are the soldiers who will not take part in hostilities. According to Turkish data, there are 150 troops and 25 tanks.

At the same time, it was reported the Turkish government’s decision to «reorganize» troops in Iraq. This was stated by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, without providing further details.

However, the Iraqi government intends to appeal to the UN security Council and request to take a decision against Turkey.

At the same time the spiritual leader of Iraqi Shia Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has declared that the country must categorically oppose the deployment of foreign soldiers on its territory.

Against the background of threats to Shiite militias to harm the Turkish interests in Iraq, the Ayatollah has urged citizens to exercise restraint.
