Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented on the statement of German Minister of defense Ursula von der Leyen according to which the contingent of the German air force can be transferred from Turkey to Jordan.
«We have not received official notice of the Germans that they leave the base in Incirlik. But if they do, no problem – we’ll just wish them a good journey,» — said the head of state.
On the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey there are nearly 250 soldiers of the German air force, and a squadron of Tornado, which are used as reconnaissance planes operating in Syria Western coalition.
Relations between Germany and Turkey significantly worsened after the suppression of the coup in July 2016. Erdogan began repressions against the opposition and propaganda before the referendum on the introduction of presidential rule was carried out, in particular, and in Germany.
