At the ceremony were the heads of the EU institutions and the leaders of several European countries. «Helmut Kohl was a German patriot, but also a patriot of Europe,» said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
Former US President bill Clinton remarked that Kohl sought peace, in which priority is given to cooperation, not conflict, and the President of France Emmanuel macron has placed the emphasis on the beneficial effects of Kohl on the relationship between Berlin and Paris.
Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel also spoke at the funeral ceremony, saying words of gratitude to Helmut Kohl.
