Ashraf al-Ajami, former Minister of prisoner Affairs in the government of Mahmoud Abbas, believes that no Palestinian politician in this situation can not cancel payment of benefits to terrorists and their families.
This statement was made at a special conference, dedicated to the 24th anniversary since the signing of the Oslo accords.
20 channel ITV said that Ashraf al-Ajami spoke after major-General stock, Yossi Kupervasser, who said that the problem of payment of benefits to terrorists and their families should be key in the negotiations between Israel and the PA.
Responding to the Kupervasser, al Ajami said that the Israelis do not understand that the leadership of the Palestinian authority there are people who are firmly convinced that armed struggle against the occupation is legitimate. He also noted that in recent years Hamas has strengthened its representation in the legislative Assembly and held the laws to increase the benefits. While al-Ajami added a caveat: when he held the post of Minister of prisoner Affairs, he had not fulfilled the law on «allowances», not to encourage violence.
Al-Ajami said that these benefits are a legacy from the period when the PLO leadership «was in exile.» According to him, the law change will be possible only when the situation changes.
