More than 100 leading experts on robotics and artificial intelligence, including Elon Musk, sent a letter to UN to ban the development and use of «killer robots».
We are talking about Autonomous weapons systems, running on artificial intelligence.
In the letter experts have warned international community of the «third revolution in military technology» and called Autonomous systems «Pandora’s box», which «will be difficult to close.»
The leaders of high technologies argue that the international community had little time and that «killer robots» should be included in the list of prohibited UN conventional weapons.
This week was scheduled meeting of the UN Commission dealing with the issues of Autonomous weapons systems, but the meeting was postponed to November.
The UN had previously discussed a potential ban on the development of «killer robots».
In 2015, more than 1,000 experts sent a letter to UN warning about the risks associated with the development of Autonomous weapons. In addition to Elon musk this appeal was signed by famous physicist Stephen Hawking and one of the founders of Apple Steve Wozniak.
