President of the International chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said during the meeting of the presidential Council of this structure, held this Sunday, 6 December, in Athens: he is willing to temporarily lose their powers until the next presidential Council.

Last month it became known that the U.S. Treasury Ilyumzhinov has included in its sanctions list on Syria. Russian businessman and owned the Bank «Russian financial Alliance» included in this list because of contacts with the Syrian government, the provision of financial assistance to the President of Syria and the Syrian Central Bank. Besides him, there are three physical persons, citizens of Syria and Cyprus.
Ilyumzhinov, the sixth President of this organization, was elected head of FIDE 24 November 1995. Ever since he was six times re-elected to this position.
