Former Minister Yossi Sarid will be buried at kibbutz Givat shlosha

The funeral of the former head of Meretz, Yossi Sarid will be held December 6 at the cemetery in kibbutz Givat-Salsa. A funeral ceremony will begin at 15:00.

Sarid died in the evening of 4 December in his tel Aviv apartment. Son Sarid, Yishai, told reporters that around at 21:30 the former Minister complained discomfort and soon lost consciousness. Doctors, who arrived to the apartment, tried to save the life of Carido, but were forced to verify his death.

On December 6, the majority of the Israeli Newspapers devote the main article to the memory of Yossi Sarid.

Sarid was a member of the Knesset ten convocations (1974-2006), first from the party Mapai and then of Meretz.In 1992-1996 and 1999-2000 respectively the positions of Minister of ecology and Minister of education.

From 1996 to 2003 he headed the Meretz party, in 2001-2003 he served as Chairman of the opposition.

Sarid argued strongly in support of the Oslo accords, the transfer of the Golan heights of Syria, abandoning the Temple mount in exchange for giving the Palestinians the right of return, criticized the operation «enduring rock».

In domestic policy, advocated the separation of religion from the state, the expansion of state involvement in the regulation of the market, fought for the increase in the budgets of the ministries of health and education.

After retiring from politics wrote several books, regularly published articles in the newspaper ha’aretz.
