Former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov was found guilty of corruption and sentenced to imprisonment for ten years. He will serve his imprisonment in a standard regime penal colony, informs Tengrinews.
Besides him, were condemned and other former officials, including former head of administration of Karaganda region Baurzhan Abdishev and the former head of administration of Karaganda Meiram Smagulov. They were sentenced to five and three years imprisonment respectively.
They were accused of corruption, including bribes, abuse of power, obstruction of business and etc.
Serik Akhmetov held many positions in the government of Kazakhstan, including the post of Minister of transport and communications and the Minister of defence, was placed under house arrest in 2014. In court the former Prime Minister did not admit his guilt.
