Tuesday, 16 February, French Ambassador to Israel Patrick Mezonov met with representatives of the Israeli Foreign Ministry and gave them the initiative to convene an international conference on the Middle East, Israeli media reported.
In particular, the French diplomat met with head of political office of Foreign Ministry by Alon Ushpizim and provided him with details of the initiative.
France intends to convene a conference in the summer of 2016 with the aim to resume negotiations between Israel and the PNA. According to ha’aretz, the representatives of France have already submitted their proposals to the management authority and received a positive response.
Recall that the first initiative was announced by the former Minister of foreign Affairs of France Laurent Fabius. According to his suggestion, the conference will bring together not only Israil and the PNA, but also the USA, several European and Arab countries. Fabius warned that if the initiative does not succeed, France unilaterally recognized the independence of the Palestinian state. Sources in the Israeli government explained that they do not refuse in advance of the French peace initiative, and willing to listen to offers Paris.
According to representatives of the government, Israel would consider the invitation to the peace conference, when it will arrive.
