French foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on 5 December that he sees no need for the resignation of Bashar al-Assad as President of Syria as a precondition for political change.
In an interview with Le Progres he said that to preserve the unity of Syria needs political change, but it does not require the immediate resignation of Assad. However, Fabius made it clear that the Syrian President who has committed many crimes, is unlikely to remain in power.
Earlier, Fabius said that the success of the fight against terrorist organization «Islamic state» need to unite the moderate forces of the Syrian, Arab and Kurdish, and possibly government forces, but once there is a «political change».
U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry said recently that victory over ISIS can be achieved within a few months after the conclusion of truce between opposition and the regime of Bashar al-Assad. He also said that it would take a ground operation.
