Former US President George Bush was honored last week «Prize of the prophet Isaiah», which awards the friends of Israel the world Council of Trustees of the Israel National Fund «Keren Yesod».
The prize was awarded to the 43 th President of the United States for his commitment to Israel and the Jewish people — in a ceremony held in the exclusive summit ILR in Toronto. Among the winners of this prize, former US President bill Clinton and the late Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Rabin.
To date, the Award of the prophet Isaiah was handed a total of five times. It was awarded to the leaders whose activities have demonstrated a true devotion to Israel and the fundamental Jewish values of «Tikkun Olam» (healing the world) and «tzedakah» (justice through philanthropy).
The award was presented the George Bush award Isaiah: Vice-President of the world Jewish Congress and President of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Mikhail Mirilashvili and honorary President of the Fund «Keren Yesod» in the CIS countries, Aleksandr Mashkevich, the largest marinetime this Fund.
Together with the award of Mirilashvili handed former President of the TANAKH in English, and uttered in Hebrew the priestly blessing (Birkat a-Kohanim): «Yes, the Lord bless you and keep you. Let the Lord Shine His face to you and be gracious to you! May the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace».
George Bush thanked the organizers for this honor and shared with the audience his thoughts about the situation in the middle East. Session with the former President was led by canadian Senator Linda Frum whose brother David Frum, a former Bush speechwriter and author of the term «Axis of evil».
Along with Bush in the summit of the ILR was attended by former Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper, Israel’s permanent representative to the UN Danny Danon and current Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
After this event, President Bush also took part in the ceremony of awarding the prize «Defender of Jerusalem» (Magen Yerushalayim) Mikhail Mirilashvili and Alexander Mashkevich – for the contribution to strengthening the status of Jerusalem in the international arena.
