Sunday, February 8, the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and President of Iran Hassan Rouhani had a phone conversation. The interview took place at the initiative of the Georgian side.
According to the press service of the Georgian Prime Minister, Kvirikashvili congratulated Rouhani with the lifting of sanctions against Iran by the US and the EU, reports the Agency «Interfax».
«The sides focused on trade and economic relations between Georgia and Iran and the huge potential of both countries. The parties spoke also about the ongoing in the region and drew attention to the importance of international security for the development of the region», – stated in the message.
«It was hoped to deepen cooperation in the field of tourism. It was noted that in this direction, the Georgian side will make a concrete step, which is expressed in the abolition of the visa regime with Iran,» – said the press service of Kvirikashvili.
In July 2013, Georgia unilaterally cancelled visa-free regime with Iran, in force since January 2011. Due to visa policy has stopped the flights between Tehran and Tbilisi. In addition, due to banking restrictions and the visa regime up to 100 Iranian companies were forced to leave the Georgian market.
