The website of the newspaper «Haaretz» claims that in April 2016 the Prime Minister of Israel, the party leader «Likud» Benjamin Netanyahu and the leader of the opposition, the Chairman of the block «Zionist camp» Isaac Herzog met secretly in Cairo with Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi.
Journalist Yossi verter writes that the visit was held within the framework of efforts to promote regional peace settlement, on the background of the negotiations on the possible establishment of a national unity government with the participation of the «Zionist camp.»
Werther cites another publication in ha’aretz, 19 February this year in which his colleague, political columnist Barak Ravid wrote about in February 2016 in Aqaba (Jordan) meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Secretary of state John Kerry, Jordan’s king Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi. In that publication it was said that the main theme of the meeting was to discuss the draft final agreement between Israel and the Palestinian authority in the framework of the regional settlement (PNA head Mahmoud Abbas did not participate in the meeting, however, was fully aware of its content, reported ha’aretz).
According to Werther, Netanyahu has discussed these issues with the Duke. And a few months after the meeting in Aqaba it on a private jet the night flew along with the head of the «Zionist camp» and a team of consultants in Cairo, where he held his meeting with al-Sisi.
Ha’aretz notes that after this meeting, in may 2016, the President of Egypt at the opening ceremony of the power plant called for a peaceful settlement between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs. In this case, al-Sisi spoke about the necessity of consensus between the leading political parties of Israel.
The publication notes that the negotiations on the establishment of a national unity government failed. And then the coalition went back to the party «Israel Our home», whose leader Avigdor Lieberman was given the post of defense Minister.
