Haaretz: the MoE is studying the possibility of introduction of paid education in high school

The Ministry of education is studying the initiative of the religious school networks in the introduction of free education in upper secondary schools, according to the newspaper «gaarets».

According to the journalist Ora Caste, the possibility to reduce the number of required hours of teaching in grades 10-12 to 6 hours a week, which is below the required for training for matriculation.

It should be noted that extra curriculum (TALAN), collected in high schools at the moment (up to 3.450 shekels a year in religious schools) cannot be used to pay tuition within the framework of the basic program as it is voluntary and designed to «expand the horizons».

The Ministry of education deny the intention to introduce a fee for basic training for matriculation, claiming that the Ministry, on the contrary, taking steps to reduce «school levies».
