Spokesman for the ruling in the Gaza strip of Hamas Fawzi Barhoum apologized to the President of the Palestinian national authority Mahmoud Abbas for the incidents that accompanied the last demonstration in support of the group.
As reported by the London newspaper «al-Sharq al-Awsat», the demonstrators, who opposed the introduction of a tax on fuel and wage cuts, burned portraits of Abbas and chanted slogans insulting the head of the Palestinian authority.
«I apologize deeply for these separate incidents. Such actions are insensitive and completely contrary to our principles. They have no excuse,» said Barhoum.
According to the publication, the demonstration coincided with the negotiations between Fatah and Hamas, under which the parties tried to agree on ways out of the crisis.
