Sunday, January 7, hundreds of people gathered for the funeral of a famous Israeli writer Aharon Appelfeld in the cemetery «and Ar-menuhot» in Jerusalem.
Conduct Appelfeld in the last path came from the President of the Supreme court Esther Hayut. «Just as Aaron was the mouthpiece of Moses, you were the mouth of the victim and inarticulate generation. You were loyal and proud representative of generation Holocaust survivors. Not only your children have been orphaned, we all become orphans,» she said.
Laureate of the Israel prize for literature Aaron Appelfeld died in the night of 4 January. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Appelfeld, was born in Bukovina, had survived the Holocaust in the years which killed his mother, and immigrated to Israel in 1946. His first stories were published in 1959 and three years later came the first collection of short stories called «Smoke» (עשן).
The main theme of the works of Appelfeld was a Disaster. He published at least 47 books. In 1983 he was awarded the Israel prize. He was rewarded with a series of other literary awards.
