A Knesset member from the party «Israel Our home» Oded Forer opened together with the mayor of Ashdod by Yechieli ESRI international chess tournament which will take place in this city.
He also had a friendly game with the famous grandmaster, a repeated contender for the world chess crown Boris Gelfand.
Speaking at the opening ceremony , the MP from NDI said that the government does not invest enough funds in development of critical sport.
«When the Israeli grandmasters win prestigious international competitions, the Ministers are running around for them to be photographed together and to get to the headers. When it comes to real help, to the allocation of necessary budgets, the enthusiasm of these politicians disappear somewhere, and to get through to them is impossible,» said Oded Forer.
According to the Deputy, the Israeli chess players Shine on the international chess scene, worthily upholding the honor of the country, and the state is obliged to maintain and develop this sport. It should be noted that the core of the team are Russian-speaking immigrants.
