The city of Brussels has cancelled all festive events, including traditional new year’s fireworks, because of the threat of terrorist attacks. The decision was made after December 29, police in Belgium have detained two suspects in the preparation of «new terrorist attacks» in Brussels.
The Christmas celebrations were to be held in the pedestrian area of the city, and their culmination was supposed to be «musical fireworks» .
Belgian media reported that the decision to cancel the celebratory events was made by the mayor after evaluation of the current Belgian coordination center for analysis of threats and meetings at the headquarters for emergency situations in MIA.
New year’s eve order in Brussels will provide 11 thousand law enforcement officers and military personnel.
